Meet our client’s needs by supplying high quality products, managing our operations in a sustainable manner and with high safety standards. Cost optimization, innovative spirit, support to the communities where we operate, and team work are the basis for maximizing returns to our shareholders.
For both LUMIN and the group companies, the key to our success is focused on dedication and commitment based on our principles and values. They were established to reflect how we generate our strategic direction and how we work day by day to achieve superior results. The key to the success of our business model is that we manage our daily activities, understanding their true significance and always applying the principles we have chosen to follow.
We are committed to Business Ethical Conduct. Each of us is responsible for protecting and preserving the integrity and reputation of our company. This means acting with integrity, carrying out our business activity and conducting ourselves in a way that protects our reputation for impartiality and honesty.
The Code of Ethics, together with the policies of Uruply S.A. - Lumin sets the expectations of how to carry out the activity of the company and represents the basis of Business Ethical Conduct.
All employees, officers and directors share the responsibility of ensuring that the company acts ethically in our professional relationships that we have with all our stakeholders: employees, communities, customers, suppliers, contractors and shareholders.
At LUMIN, we are committed to the production of high-quality veneers and plywood panels. Our goal is to provide products that meet our customers’ specifications and needs at all times.
For us, Quality is the result of being focused on customers, both domestic and foreign. Each sector of the plant and the company takes the time to know its customers, their specifications and needs, in order to deliver a product that meets their requirements.
For us, Quality is built into the process, rather than being a quality examined in the finished product. We aim to ensure that each of our production processes maintains the expected quality, correcting any deviation on the spot and always working for continuous improvement. This is possible thanks to a deep understanding of the task and commitment of each of our collaborators throughout the company. In this sense, our Quality Department, in coordination with each production sector, promotes and values the participation of all our collaborators in a structured and disciplined way, with valuable contributions as a result of observation and experimentation that allow us to arrive at solutions and improvements for processes as well as products.
LUMIN is certified before the Customs as Qualified Economic Operator (OEC) .
This certification shows our commitment to security (security) that we provide throughout the logistics chain, from entering the plant to leaving our products abroad.
The industrial phase began at the end of 2004 with the construction of a plywood mill in Tacuarembó. This plant was inaugurated in June 2006. A year later, the company announced its industrial expansion with new investments in Tacuarembó, as well as major investments in land and plantations. Both projects include investments to produce renewable energy based on biomass and in a sustainable manner.
Because of the positive economic impact these investments will have on the interior of Uruguay and it’s regional economies these investments have been designated as “Projects of National Interest” by the Government of Uruguay.
Lumin is focused on the establishment and development of forest resources. This involves activities beginning with project planning and approvals by the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry or Housing, Land Planning and Environmental. Site preparation, growing of seedlings in the company’s private nursery and planting follow. As the trees grow, we move into silvicultural activities such as selective thinning and pruning to produce knot-free, clear wood for higher value appearance products.
The first commercial forest thinning was made in the year 2005. With the growth of industrial production, the harvest of wood increased to 1 million cubic meters of raw material per year. It is expected to continue to grow over the years up to 1.5 million cubic meters in a sustainable manner. For harvesting and transporting logs to our plywood mill we use mechanized systems, operated by outsourced services and crews that follow LUMIN's safety rules.
At present, pine and eucalyptus logs are exported to Asia, as well as eucalyptus and pine fiber/chips/biomass to local customers.
Forest:
At LUMIN Logistics area, we give a special focus on accident prevention. In this sense, training, responsibility, and professionalism of our drivers and third-party providers, are essential conditions when working with us.
We execute strict control on our transport security. Furthermore, we have a system for checking and monitoring all transport modes, this is done by our staff, which allows us to immediately detect and implement opportunities for improvement.
To supply our plywood mill, we use a modern fleet of trucks that transport the wood from the north and east regions of the country through national routes and local roads.
Finished Products:
To transport the plywood from our Tacuarembó mill to Montevideo, we use two modes of transport: a fleet of outsourced trucks that adjust to the loading needs of our material and the available rail services. Regarding shipments to various final destinations within Uruguay and the region, we work with third-party Providers
Our land logistics team in Tacuarembó is responsible for monitoring compliance with our safety standards with a focus on accident prevention in both local and regional transport. In this sense, training is carried out for carriers and controls on the corresponding routes.
Our logistics by sea are very diverse. We use different modes of transport (containers, loose cargo ships, and RO-RO) depending on the volume of each market and the requirements of our clients. In this way, we deliver our material to multiple destinations such as the United States, Mexico, Europe, Central America, and Asia.
The storage and preparation of our export orders for finished products take place on our warehouse located on Highway # 5, km. 33, in the RAS Group Logistics Park. We have 10,000 m2 of covered storage area and a maneuvering yard for the management of our empty containers. Also, we work with contracted warehouses when required, which comply with our security requirements and our operating procedures.
Based on the risk management of our logistics supply chain, we carry out controls to minimize them. We comply with the security standards and certification requirements promoted by the National Customs Directorate, Qualified Economic Operator (OEC, also known internationally as internationally as Authorized Economic Operator, OEA).
