Protecting our forests – educating future generations
Julio 03, 2025
At LUMIN®, we believe that sharing knowledge is a key tool in building a more sustainable future. That’s why, as part of our commitment to education and the environment, we visited Colegio San Javier in Tacuarembó to deliver an educational talk on forest fire prevention and response.
Joaquín Castro, Head of Health, Safety and Environment at LUMIN shared his expertise with 5th and 6th grade students who are currently working on a project about forestry. The topic was chosen by the students themselves, recognising forestry as one of the most important industries in the region.
During the session, we discussed the processes forestry companies across the country implement in order to prevent and fight wildfires, the tools and equipment they use including watchtowers and aerial support like helicopters and planes, and the importance of coordinated efforts to protect our forests.
This initiative strengthens our commitment to education, local development, and sustainable environmental management, contributing to the following Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
Creating long-term value also means being present in the community, sharing knowledge and raising awareness across future generations.
