The Uruguayan Technological Laboratory (LATU), with the co-financing of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is a project with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of micro, small and medium sawmills and carpentry in northeastern Uruguay, carrying out technology transfer to obtain products with greater added value. To do this, it will transfer the technology of its prototype solar-powered wood drying kiln, with a minimum consumption of electricity, which will be used to build two kilns, one in Tacuarembó and the other in Rivera.
In March, the transfer of knowledge on kiln construction technology and the quality and drying of wood begins, through training workshops aimed at sawmills, carpentry shops, technicians, and students of related careers in the region.
Through this project, the aim is for the wood production chain in the northeast region, of which LUMIN is a preponderant actor, to be strengthened and obtain products with greater added value that benefit companies and the community.
