The forestry company reaffirms its commitment to society, with the incorporation of workers in a situation of hearing impairment employees from various areas of the company to promote their communication and integration. Within the framework of Law 19.691 on the promotion of work for people with disabilities, which favors their hiring by private companies, Lumin incorporated people with a hearing impairment into the work at the forest nursery. A determining factor for its insertion was the integration with its coworkers. To achieve this, Romina Palacios, her direct supervisor, started, in agreement with the Ministry of Social Development, a sign language course with a duration of two years. Palacios is confident that this facilitates his task and communication with the operators. From this initiative, the company considered it important to train more collaborators in sign language, not only in the nursery, but also in the areas of Human Resources, Security and Administration. Once a week, eight collaborators take classes with Professor Benito Salinas, sign language teacher and teacher at school No. 145 for people with hearing impairment and language disorders. To support him in his role as a teacher, he was donated a laptop as a work tool. During 2019, the company met with members of the Departmental Commission of the National Disability Program (PRONADIS), whose main objective is to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, under the understanding that, through training , social and labor inclusion is possible. Lumin's commitment to the community and to the goals of sustainable development is also reflected in the accompaniment of local institutions that support disabilities, such as Friends and Parents of the Disabled of Tacuarembó (APADISTA), and the Parent, Home Commission of Melo Intellectual Disabilities (COPADHIM). The previous initiatives not only reaffirm Lumin's commitment to the law for the promotion of work for people with disabilities, but also to the tenth Sustainable Development Goal, which refers to the reduction of inequalities, through integration and the good working environment Among all the collaborators.
